Somalia’s first innovation tech hub has officially opened in Mogadishu, supporting the growth of tech startups in the African country. The tech hub in the Somali capital is called iRise Hub, and it provides a co-working space, as well as research, incubation, and acceleration services for new startups. This is a first for Somalia, but Tech hubs continue to drive innovation across Africa, with 314 hubs currently operational in 93 cities across 42 countries.

The tech hub based in the country’s capital will be called iRise Hub, and will provide a co-working space, as well as research, incubation, and acceleration services for new startups. While connecting, collaborating and sharing ideas, Somali entrepreneurs at iRise Hub will aim to further develop the tech sector in the country.

The al-Shabaab Islamist militants were in the final stages of preparing to attack U.S. troops and African peacekeeping forces, according to the Pentago. nWhat exactly the imminent threat was, the Pentagon isn’t saying. “Drones carry precision missiles that go against pinpoint targets. Training camps tend to be dispersed — personnel out in the open, moving around,” said a CNN commentator. “It’s not at all clear how they used drones to kill 150 people at a dispersed training camp.”

Bakara is the site of the infamous 1993 battle when fighters shot down two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters. Daru Salaam means “house of peace. The company is building 500 homes in a new development four miles outside Mogadishu, part of an economic boom as diaspora Somalis return and businesses cash in on relative peace in the city.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh has said the war-torn horn of Africa country could build a new Capital City after two decades of fighting destroyed its current headquarter in Mogadishu. Sheikh said this at a meeting with Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of an investors conference taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. He did not give any details regarding the location and cost of building the city.

Despite challenges related to security and the lack of a supply chain, Soda King, a known beverage brand has moved forward with manufacturing their product in Somalia. A soda manufacturing plant is now operating in Mogadishu for the first time, ever. According to CCTV Africa, plans for expansion are already in the works as companies, which could potentially sell the product, are also opening nearby. Soda King uses local produce to flavor the soda and currently has the capacity to bottle up to 8,000 beverages in an hour, the report noted.

Kenya is planning to reopen its diplomatic mission in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu at an unspecified date later this year despite unease security situation in the country, a senior diplomat told reporters on Monday. Kenya would be the second country to set up an embassy in Somalia after Turkey following over two decades of war in the horn of Africa country.
