The Seedstars Douala Competition served as the Cameroonian leg of the global early-stage startups competition for emerging markets. The competition took place at the end of September, with 11 of the best startups vying to be the representative from Cameroon for the global final event next year. Seedstars World, which describes itself as the world’s biggest startup competition in emerging markets, holds these events in over 65 countries before winners are selected.

A total of 11 Cameroonian tech startups have been selected to take part in the country’s local Seedstars World competition on September 29, with the winner of the early-stage startup contest in Douala earning the right to pitch to investors at a final in Switzerland next year. The global tech startup competition will be the first-ever Seedstars event in Cameroon, with the 11 startups who were announced this week pitching to a panel of judges.

Cameroon national team head coach Hugo Broos has yet to receive almost seven months’ worth of his salary from the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT). The Belgian tactician led the Indomitable Lions to Africa Cup of Nations glory at the 2017 AFCON in Gabon, with Cameroon beating Egypt 2-1 in the final, but he has not yet been paid for half a year’s worth of wages. Reports in Jeune Afrique suggest that the coach, who earns around $48,900 per month at the African champions, has not received a pay check since around September last year.

Cameroon winger and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) player of the tournament Christian Bassogog has completed a transfer from Danish club Aab Fodbold to Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye. Bassogog was a key performer for Cameroon at the 2017 AFCON, contributing two important goals and a great deal of hard work from the wing in a successful tournament for the Indomitable Lions, allowing them to lift their fifth AFCON trophy after a 2-1 win over the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Cameroon have emerged from Gabon with their fifth Nations Cup title after a 2-1 comeback victory over Egypt in the final in Libreville on Sunday night. The Indomitable Lions were not expected to beat the Pharaohs in the decider, as Egypt had only conceded one goal throughout the tournament up to that point, and they were aiming to lift their eighth AFCON trophy with victory in Gabon.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon managed a 2-0 win over the Black Stars of Ghana in the second semi-final played at the Stade de Franceville on Thursday evening, securing their place in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final against Egypt. Goals from Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Christian Bassogog made sure of victory over a more favoured Ghanaian outfit, with captain Benjamin Moukandjo leading his charges by example with a fine display in midfield.

AFCON host nation Gabon have bitterly disappointed their fans at the ongoing 2017 edition of the competition after failing to progress from the group stages of the tournament. Gabon drew 0-0 with Cameroon in 2017 Africa Cup of Nations action at the Stade de l’Amitié in Libreville on Sunday night, which meant that Cameroon finished behind Burkina Faso in second place in the Group A standings.

Algeria national team coach Milovan Rajevac has expressed his discontent following his team’s 1-1 draw against Cameroon in the opening group stage World Cup qualifier at home in Blida. Bejamin Moukandjo equalised for the visiting Indomitable Lions after Algeria’s El Arbi Soudani opened the scoring for the Fennec Foxes on Sunday in a Group B encounter at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium.

Cameroon international Alex Song has officially joined Russian club Rubin Kazan following the cancellation of his contract with Spanish side Barcelona. The 28-year-old midfielder has been on loan at West Ham United for the last two seasons, but his next adventure will not take place in the English Premier League.
