Nigerian John Obi Mikel is considering a transfer move which would take him away from long time employers Chelsea and settle him at Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The midfielder has been a fixture at Stamford Bridge for nine years, playing in London under a variety of coaches that have included Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Di Matteo.

According to Turkish football television show, Futbol Gunlugu, Mikel has been in talks with the Turkish giants about the possibility of completing a move from the Blues.

The show revealed that Fenerbahce sporting director Giuliano Terrane travelled to London for a meeting with the Nigerian player regarding terms ahead of a potential deal.

The club, which is based in the Turkish capital Istanbul, has been very active in the transfer market, completing the signing of Portuguese international Nani, while looking likely to capture the signature of Manchester United’s Robin van Persie.

Former Nigeria national team coach Stephen Keshi snubbed Mikel recently by not including him in the Super Eagles squad for a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Chad in June. The exclusion fueled rumours that the 28-year-old and his national team coach have not seen eye to eye, though the former Mali and Togo tactician rubbished such talk.

Keshi has now been sacked from the national team, opening the way for Mikel to make his mark on the Super Eagles once again. A move to Fenerbahce could provide the midfielder with more game time, as the competition in midfield at Chelsea is fierce and nailing down frequent play has been a difficult task for Mikel.
