Kevin Anderson Knocked Out Of French Open In Third Round

Kevin Anderson’s run at the 2015 French Open came to an end in the third round of the competition at the weekend when Frenchman Richard Gasquet defeated his South African opponent in four sets.

The 29-year-old South African talent was seeded 15th at Roland Garros, but fell to the 20th seed who was heavily favoured by his home crowd.

The match began well for the Johannesburg-born tennis pro, with the first set going his way thanks to the fact that he managed to break Gasquet’s serve, winning the initial set 6-4.

The experienced Frenchman was not to be outdone, however, as he bounced back well to win the second set with a tie break 7-6, before he took the third set 7-5.

Anderson pushed him throughout the encounter, but he closed the match out with a 6-4 victory, ending with figures of 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-4, allowing Gasquet to progress to the fourth round.

Having defeated American Tim Smyczek in straight sets in the first round, and Taiwan’s Yen-Hsun Lu in the second round, Anderson was hoping that his form would carry him on to the fourth round, but Gasquet showed discipline and ability to send the South African out of the French Open.

Anderson will now turn his focus to Wimbledon in a few weeks, where he will continue his quest to move up the ATP Tour rankings following his best ever placing of 15th in January this year.
