Vincent Enyeama Earns 100th Cap For Nigeria In Uganda Loss

Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama achieved his 100th cap for the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday night when they took on the Cranes of Uganda in an international friendly match in Uyo.

The encounter itself was a disappointment for the hosts, as it ended 1-0 in favour of the visiting East Africans thanks to a 81st minute goal from Farouq Miya.

But despite the loss, much of the focus was on Lille goalkeeper Enyeama reaching the incredible 100 cap milestone, becoming only the second player to achieve that after former captain Joseph Yobo.

The 2014 African Player of the Year nominee has been ever-present for the Super Eagles in the past few years, forming a crucial element in a strong Nigerian national team that was able to conquer the continent at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa and qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where they were knocked out at the Second Round stage.

Enyeama will get the chance to record his 101st appearance for the Nigerians on Sunday in their second friendly international of the week when they travel to Mbombela to take on South Africa.

Bafana Bafana drew two qualifying games with the Super Eagles in 2015 Nations Cup qualification, contributing to the Super Eagles losing out on a chance to defend their 2013 title, so Sunday’s match will be a chance for the West Africans to set the record straight.
