Fiorentina’s new Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah continues to do well with the Viola in Italy, and on Thursday night he scored a brace to stop high flying Juventus in their tracks and defeat them 2-1 in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final.

What was particularly impressive, however, was the fact that Salah’s two goals against the Bianconeri at the Juventus Stadium ended the Serie A leaders’ 47-game unbeaten home run.

Juve’s home ground has been a fortress in the last few years, and Salah’s contribution in this encounter makes history by putting a temporary stop to their incredible dominance at home, and it also sets the Viola up well for the second leg at home in Florence on April 7.

Salah arrived at Fiorentina on loan from Chelsea, and since his Italian career began he has scored six goals in seven matches, showing that he is comfortable in Italy and in very rich form at the moment.

This fact has been appreciated by his coach Vincenzo Montella, and Fiorentina sports director Daniele Pradè, who both spoke about the Pharaohs player following last night’s game.

“The team has reached a certain level of maturity and after some time together the players understand me and I understand them,” Montella said to Rai Sport.

“It was a great performance, starting from the strikers, who also worked well in defence. They all knew we could only achieve the result with the sacrifice of everybody.

“We showed a lot more courage after the break and that’s when the winning goal arrived,” he said.

Answering a question concerning the added technical options at the coach’s disposal with the arrival of Salah, Montella said, “The whole team is growing, not just Salah, though he is scoring a lot of goals. Salah is in a state of grace and we hope he can continue, but the team has been consistent since November-December.

“Salah settled in very well. We knew he was strong, but in all honesty his immediate impact has gone beyond expectations. The team is confident, aware of what it can do and also remains humble.”

Sporting director Pradè added to the discussion, telling Rai Sport that, “He’s a strong player who is giving us great satisfaction, he immediately settled into the squad and already the team relies on him.”

“He scored an incredible goal running for 70 metres. It was like when you’re a kid, putting a cross forward for yourself and then running on to it. Up until January 27 Cuadrado had a buy-out clause. At that moment we had to find an alternative, Chelsea had this strong player, we did well to choose and sign him.

“The move is our biggest economic move of January, but also our best one on a technical level. The squad has put itself at Salah’s disposal and he is working for the team, so they are getting the best out of each other,” he concluded.
