Somalia To UN Envoy: We’ll Solve Our Own Political Discrepancies

Somali Members of Parliament (MP) are speaking out against the involvement of the United Nations in repairing the political landscape of the country. According to CCTV Africa, Nicholas Kay, UN Envoy to Somalia expressed concerns about MPs changing votes for cash rewards, an obvious hindrance to progress. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud refuted the accusations saying that the UN should respect the country’s leaders and institutions allowing them to settle their own differences.

“The envoy has discredited the honor and dignity of the Somali parliamentarians while relying on business rumors,” Somali MP Mohamed Abdi Hayir said in the report.

Another MP Abdirahman Hosh Jibril agreed with Hayir and said the UN’s allegations were “undiplomatic” and “inflammatory.”
