Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa on Monday stressed the importance of economic recovery for Tunisia during the Start-Up Democracy international conference. Attendees included representatives of international economic institutions, politicians and businessmen from 30 countries invited to Tunisia for the presentation of the country’s new economic direction.

Investors were presented with 22 projects totaling some six billion euros, including the Enfidha deep sea port project. Jomaa stressed a new governance style based on skills in order to ensure a stable democracy and economy.

”The Tunisia of tomorrow,” he said, ”sparks dreams. We need to believe in them if we want to reap the benefits in the future.” ”At a time when chaos is threatening Libya and barbaric acts have the upper hand in Syria and Iraq, Tunisia needs all of our support to continue moving forward on the path of democracy,” the Tunisian prime minister said.

French PM Manuel Valls, one of the attendees, said that the two visits made over the past year by French president Francois Hollande showed that France was very much by Tunisia’s side. He went on to praise the new constitution and the courage of the Tunisian population in confronting terrorism.
