Heating Up: Marketing East Africa As A Tourist Destination

From eTurboNews.

The Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair is underway through the weekend in the Tanzanian city of Arusha and a second travel fair is planned later this year in Dar es Salaam.

The goal is to market East Africa as a single tourist destination and raise the region’s profile by promoting East African tourism to the world, according to a report in eTurboNews.

Karibu Fair brings new destinations, facilities and products to the attention of overseas tour agents and gives them a chance to visit the regions’s national parks and properties, event organizers say.

The event also exposes travel journalists to East African tourism and emerging trends.

In October this year, the first-ever Swahili International Tourism Expo is planned in Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam, chosen for its airline access and existing state-of-the-art infrastructure and amenities, organizers say.

The Swahili expo is targeting tourism and travel professionals from all over the world. It  will take the format of a travel and trade exhibition with a conference element focusing on topical tourism, sustainability and conservation.

The Karibu Fair is the largest travel expo of its kind in East and Central Africa, and the second largest travel industry event in Africa after the INDABA event in South Africa, according to the report.
