From Akowo

Having become a statutory instrument following the President’s assent on the 30th November, the National Revenue Authority (NRA), prior to executing the provisions inherent in the 2013 Finance Act, has begun sensitizing taxpayers across the country on what is in the new Act and how those provisions are going to be handled by the revenue generating institution.

The Miatta Conference Hall was one of such venues the authority has used to commence its sensitization on the Act in a bid to enhance public participation, so as to increase their knowledge on what exist in the Act.

The platform enabled suggestions from representatives of respective business houses who were present, which were considered vital in ensuring a friendly execution of policies contained in the Act.

The Commissioner-General of NRA, Haja Kallah Kamara re-echoed the importance of the gathering, considering the fact that it will alert the minds of taxpayers about the changes that have been made in the new Act, and be able to listen to views on issues contained in the Act that might appear complicating to members of the public.

Making an overall statement on the motive of the session, Commissioner Ibrahim Sorie Kamara of the Domestic Tax Department said that the 2013 Finance Act takes into account the fiscal issues covering 2013 operations, and the changes the NRA and the Ministry of Finance deem important to make in ensuring that tax laws are flexible and competitive.
