Alex Iwobi Will Reject Barcelona In Favour Of Arsenal According To Father

Nigerian starlet Alex Iwobi would deny a multi-million dollar move to Spanish giants Barcelona in favour of remaining at English Premier League club Arsenal, the Super Eagle’s father believes.

The Nigerian striker is growing into his role with the Gunners, having impressed last season when injuries saw him thrust into the limelight.

His composure at the young age of 20 is incredible, and coach Arsene Wenger’s experience nurturing youngsters has allowed him to earn a solid first team place this term.

Inevitably his impressive performances have attracted the interest of top teams in Europe, but the North London club will look to keep their talented attacking star, who has been with the club since his father brought him to training when he was only six years old.

Alex Iwobi’s father speaks

The stellar youngster’s father, Chuka Iwobi, has spoken about a potential move to Barca, using the top Spanish club as an example, suggesting that his son would rather stay with the Gunners to continue his development.

“In football, you never say no. But at this point in time, he is at the right place. He’s doing well at Arsenal, but should any club come for him now, the answer would certainly be no,” Iwobi’s father confirmed, according to AfricanFootball.

“For him now, it’s not about the money. So, should a club like Barcelona come with more money, he will certainly stay back at Arsenal because now it is not about him making money, it’s about him concentrating on his career, progressing and going on to the next stage,” he added.

“I took him to Arsenal when he was six and they signed when he was eight. All he has known is Arsenal. He has never gone on loan, he has always been with Arsenal. He has broken into the first team and what they all talk about is his humility,” the father proudly said.

“Personally, that’s very important because when a player starts getting arrogant that’s when the player fails. It’s been good, God has been great. I see him being in Arsenal for very many, many years,” Iwobi senior confirmed.
