Sadio Mane Named PFA Fans’ Premier League Player Of The Month

Senegalese striker Sadio Mane has been rewarded for his excellent early season play at new club Liverpool with supporters voting him as the PFA Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month for August and September.

The prolific attacker managed to top the votes ahead of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Watford’s Etienne Capue.

According to the PFA, just under 78,000 votes were cast in the digital poll, which was available for supporters via the Sky Sports website and mobile applications.

De Bruyne was second in the overall poll with 24,340 votes, while Watford midfielder Capoue achieved 6,256 votes. Diego Costa, Michail Antonio and Curtis Davies were fourth, fifth and sixth on the poll respectively.

With 38,199 of the votes, Teranga Lions star Mane earned his nod for the first two months of the new 2016-17 Premier League campaign, capping off an excellent start to his career with the Merseyside club.

The striker has so far made five appearances in the English top flight, scoring three goals and causing problems for opposition defences.

The Player of the Month moved to Liverpool from Southampton in June for a fee of $44.2 million on a five-year deal.

The 24-year-old wrote his name in the record books last year with the fastest ever EPL hat-trick in Southampton’s 6-1 win over Aston Villa in May 2015. Three goals in two minutes and 54 seconds earned him that impressive record, and he went on to score another hat-trick earlier this year before departing the Saints for the Reds.

His excellent start to life at Liverpool has earned him the PFA accolade as well as the faith of fans and his German manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool will likely be without his services in January and February next year as Mane travels to Gabon with the Senegal national team for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
