Schalke Chief Executive May Make Baba Rahman Loan Move Permanent

Ghanaian defender Baba Rahman could be laying the groundwork for a permanent deal with Bundesliga club Schalke 04, if club Chief Executive Christian Heidel is to be believed.

After struggling to nail down a place at Chelsea in the English Premier League last season, Rahman decided to accept the offer of a loan deal without an option to be acquired permanently at the end of the campaign.

Despite the lack of such a clause in his one-year loan contract, the Ghana international may still make Germany is permanent home if performances continue to please Schalke management.

The 22-year-old left-back played very well against Bayern Munich in Bundesliga action this past weekend, and Heidel spoke about the possibility of agreeing terms with his English club at the end of the current campaign, though he admits that the London side may make a deal more difficult to achieve.

“His situation is a bit different. Chelsea is a bit more restrictive. In the end it depends on the player, on whether he wants to stay with us,” Heidel told German media, according to AfricanFootball.

Rahman enjoyed a successful spell in Germany at Augsburg before completing a move to Chelsea, and his previous experience in Germany seems to be helping him to settle at Schalke.

Struggles at Chelsea during a difficult season for the club hindered Rahman’s ability to integrate in the squad, and with Jose Mourinho, the coach who brought him to Chelsea, sacked mid-season, the player found it tough to establish a place in a starting eleven that was not doing well and ended 10th on the league table.

It is unclear whether the Black Stars defender is determined to return to The Blues with more experience in an effort to secure a first team place, or whether he would happily remain in Germany on a permanent deal.
