The transfer season is a busy time for European soccer, and this particular pre-season window has been no different, with numerous African players making transfers from one team to another.

A number of Africans have left their previous clubs in search for glory with new teams, while many clubs have taken the opportunity to strengthen their sides with the addition of African soccer stars.

Sadio Mane – Southampton to Liverpool

Liverpool have strengthened their attacking lineup with the signing of Senegal international Sadio Mane from Southampton. The striker leaves the Saints for a $44.8 million transfer, making him the most expensive African soccer player in history.

Victor Wanyama – Southampton to Tottenham

Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama has made a move from Southampton to Tottenham Hotspurs. After becoming the first Kenyan to feature in the Premier League, the defensive midfielder has signed a five-year deal that will see him playing Champions League football next season.

Ahmed Musa – CSKA Moscow to Leicester City

Leicester City have broken their transfer record with the signing of CSKA Moscow’s Nigerian winger Ahmed Musa. The Super Eagles signed a four-year deal with the Premier League champions for a fee of around $21.9 million.

Mehdi Benatia – Bayern Munich to Juventus

Italian champions Juventus have signed Moroccan international Mehdi Benatia on a one-season loan deal from Bayern Munich. The Bianconeri have the option to buy the defender outright at the end of the upcoming season.

Seydou Doumbia – Roma to Basel

Cote d’Ivoire striker Seydou Doumbia has joined Swiss club Basel on a season-long loan from Serie A club Roma. The 28-year-old has been struggling to find his form at club level, and will now have a chance to re-ignite his career in Switzerland.

Sofiane Feghouli

Feghouli joined West Ham on a free transfer from Valencia in June, as the 26-year-old’s contract with the Spanish club was up. Despite interest from clubs such as Inter Milan, the player decided to sign a three-year contract with the Hammers.

Eric Bailly – Villarreal to Manchester United

Cote D’Ivoire defender Eric Bailly made a transfer from Villarreal to Manchester United for around $39.5 million, becoming new coach Jose Mourinho’s first signing. Bailly has a four-year contract with an option to extend for two years.

Ramadan Sobhi – Al Ahly to Stoke City

Egyptian winger Sobhi completed a move from his home country to the English Premier League, with the 19-year-old joining Stoke City from Cairo giants Al Ahly for a fee of around $6.6 million.

Adam Kwarasey – Portland Timbers to Rosenborg

Ghanaian goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey signed for Norwegian club Rosenborg BK from MLS club Portland Timbers, where the player was instrumental in their 2015 MLS Cup victory. The 28-year-old Black Stars goalkeeper therefore returns to his country of birth, although he represented Ghana at international level.

Youssef El Arabi – Lekhwiya to Granada

Moroccan striker El Arabi is back in European soccer following a free transfer from Lekhwiya in Qatar to Spanish club Granada. The 29-year-old attacker will be keen to prove himself in Spain ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon early next year.
