6 Of Africa’s 10 Best Airports Are In South Africa

Six of Africa’s 10 best airports are in South Africa, two are in North Africa and two are on islands, according to Skytrax World Airport Awards.

Cape Town International Airport was ranked as Africa’s best airport Wednesday at the awards ceremony in Germany, with airports in Johannesburg and Durban ranking No. 2 and No. 3 on the continent based on surveys of airport customers, CapeBusinessNews reported.

Africa’s three best airports also ranked in the top 100 airports in the world out of 550 airports. Cape Town took the No. 22 spot globally, Johannesburg was No. 30 and Durban’s King Shaka International Airport ranked No. 35 out of the top 100 airports globally.

Three other South African airports ranked in Africa’s top 10 including East London at No. 5; Port Elizabeth No. 6 and Bloemfontein No. 8.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are based on annual global airport customer satisfaction surveys with 13.25 million airport questionnaires completed by 106 different nationalities of airline customers during the survey period, June 2015 to February 2016 at 550 airports worldwide. Traveler were asked to evaluate their experiences at check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through departure at the gate.
