The Rwandan government will be working with Finnish mobile giants Nokia and local company SRG in the deployment of smart city technology solutions throughout the country. Nokia’s advanced capabilities in this arena will be used to deliver a secure and effective smart city solution for the East African nation, which will include a mission-critical access network, IP and cloud core networks, and Nokia’s ‘impact platform’, which will enable numerous applications related to the internet of things (IoT).

The Rwandan government’s partnership with Microsoft is benefiting efforts to roll out online education initiatives that are envisaged to become standard across the country in the next three years. The giant American multinational technology company is working with the Rwandan authorities in the pursuit of their short and long-term objectives to make Rwanda a digital learning pioneer on the African continent. By June this year, the Rwandan government is aiming to see around 50 percent of all subjects taught online.

The Tutsi are often associated with the horrific events of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, known officially as the genocide against the Tutsi. The richness and diversity of Tutsi culture is less well known. The Tutsi and Hutu people were mainly friendly until European colonization. The Tutsi dominated the region beginning in the 14th century, but established friendly relations with the Hutu in feudal relationships owing to their vast cattle herds and warfare knowledge. With the colonial period in the late 1800s, favorable treatment of one group over another intensified animosities.

Famous Dutch soccer club Feyenoord have agreed a deal with the Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) which will strengthen the quality of their youth and development infrastructure. The Dutch club’s youth academy, which is affectionately known as the Varkenoord, earned the Rinus Michels Award for best youth academy in the Netherlands for five consecutive years since 2009.

As a reward for their title winning run at the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda last weekend, the Democratic Republic of Congo national team players have been gifted Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles by their head of state.

The Democratic Republic of Congo finished the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda as champions after a decisive 3-0 victory over Mali in the final on Sunday. The emphatic win allowed the Congolese national team to claim their second CHAN title at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, as the Leopards won the inaugural edition in 2009 with a 2-0 win over Ghana.

The 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is coming to a close in Rwanda, and over the last two days the competition’s semi-final matches took place, with Mali and DR Congo emerging from the last four teams to contest the final this coming weekend.

The group stage matches at this year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda have been concluded, and the eight teams that will continue in the tournament are known. The African-based national teams who have managed to earn their spot in the quarter-finals are Rwanda, Cote D’Ivoire, Cameroon, Congo DR, Tunisia, Guinea, Zambia and Mali.

Current UEFA Champions League title holders Barcelona have announced plans to open a football academy in Rwanda at the end of the year, with the aim of nurturing young talent in the East African region. Based on the the proven methods of the La Masia Youth Academy in Barcelona, which produced the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Gerard Pique, amongst others, the academy in Rwanda will select talented footballers in the region for further development in an attempt to produce future players of high calibre.
