    Somalia’s first innovation tech hub has officially opened in Mogadishu, supporting the growth of tech startups in the African country. The tech hub in the Somali capital is called iRise Hub, and it provides a co-working space, as well as research, incubation, and acceleration services for new startups. This is a first for Somalia, but Tech hubs continue to drive innovation across Africa, with 314 hubs currently operational in 93 cities across 42 countries.

    Somalia’s first innovation tech hub is set to open in Mogadishu this September, supporting the growth of tech startups in the country. The tech hub based in the country’s capital will be called iRise Hub, and will provide a co-working space, as well as research, incubation, and acceleration services for new startups. While connecting, collaborating and sharing ideas, Somali entrepreneurs at iRise Hub will aim to further develop the tech sector in the country.

    Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh has said the war-torn horn of Africa country could build a new Capital City after two decades of fighting destroyed its current headquarter in Mogadishu. Sheikh said this at a meeting with Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of an investors conference taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. He did not give any details regarding the location and cost of building the city.

    Despite challenges related to security and the lack of a supply chain, Soda King, a known beverage brand has moved forward with manufacturing their product in Somalia. A soda manufacturing plant is now operating in Mogadishu for the first time, ever. According to CCTV Africa, plans for expansion are already in the works as companies, which could potentially sell the product, are also opening nearby. Soda King uses local produce to flavor the soda and currently has the capacity to bottle up to 8,000 beverages in an hour, the report noted.

    Kenya is planning to reopen its diplomatic mission in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu at an unspecified date later this year despite unease security situation in the country, a senior diplomat told reporters on Monday. Kenya would be the second country to set up an embassy in Somalia after Turkey following over two decades of war in the horn of Africa country.
