The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have decided on the eleven players that performed to outstanding levels at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, allowing them to be considered as part of the team of the tournament. The Nations Cup ended on Sunday with Cameroon victorious over Egypt in the final, but the team of the tournament focused on individuals who stood out at the competition, and as such, there were names included from various national teams involved in the tournament.

Springbok rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen passed away on Monday after struggling with with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) since his diagnosis in 2011. He was only 45. Van der Westhuizen was a multiple record holder during his time as a player for numerous famed Springbok teams and his beloved Blue Bulls franchise. At a time he was the most-capped Springbok with 89 tests and record try scorer with 38 tries for the South Africans.

Egyptian national team goalkeeper Essam El Hadary was named man of the match in Wednesday night’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final victory over Burkina Faso at the Stade de I’Amitie in Libreville.
