The talented Super Eagles player has been an important part of coach Antonio Conte’s impressive team this season, with the Blues leading the EPL standings at the moment on 63 points, 10 points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in second.

Allister Coetzee has been confirmed as Springbok coach despite a terrible 2016 season which prompted fans and rugby stakeholders in South Africa alike to call for him to be removed from the post. The Springboks have always been a force in world rugby, but last year saw the team struggle to replicate their usual good form against top sides. Coetzee survived a review to keep his job as coach of the side despite a terrible first season in charge in which the Springboks experienced a number of embarrassing losses while looking out of sorts at times.

German Bundesliga club Schalke have moved to make a loan deal for Algerian international Nabil Bentaleb permanent, with the talented youngster set to complete the switch from Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. The 21-year-old had been a regular for the north London club for two years since the end of 2013, making 66 appearances for Spurs over the course of three seasons, but only five of those came in 2015-16, prompting him to look elsewhere for playing time.

The interest around Franck Kessie’s signature in recent months has been incredible, with numerous clubs in England making offers to lure the talent from Italian side Atalanta, but the Ivorian international midfielder has made it clear which club he would favour. The January transfer market saw Kessie featuring as one of the most sought after players, but numerous offers were rejected by the club from Bergamo, including from rivals Roma and Juventus in Serie A. The allure of lucrative contracts continues to attract numerous African players to the Chinese Super League, with Nigerian striker Brown Ideye becoming the latest addition to the list of professionals swapping Europe for China. The Super Eagles attacker has completed a deal that will see him playing alongside national team captain John Obi Mikel at Tianjin Teda. The 28-year-old has made the decision to leave Greek side Olympiakos in favour of a three-year deal with his new side in China.

Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi was in Egypt this week as part of an initiative to raise awareness and bring attention to a specific health campaign in the North African country. The incredibly talented attacking player travelled to Egypt on Tuesday as part of a campaign to inform and encourage Hepatitis C sufferers in the country to seek treatment for their illness. It is hoped that Messi’s fame and popularity will give further attention to the important health initiative in the North African nation.

Cameroon winger and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) player of the tournament Christian Bassogog has completed a transfer from Danish club Aab Fodbold to Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye. Bassogog was a key performer for Cameroon at the 2017 AFCON, contributing two important goals and a great deal of hard work from the wing in a successful tournament for the Indomitable Lions, allowing them to lift their fifth AFCON trophy after a 2-1 win over the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) proudly announced the backing of South African president Jacob Zuma this week in regards to current head of CAF Issa Hayatou, who is trying to remain at the continental soccer governing body for yet another term. The embattled South African head of state has pledged his support to Hayatou ahead of the confederation’s upcoming elections. On Saturday Zuma was paid a visit by Cameroonian Hayatou at his home in Pretoria ahead of the CAF Super Cup final, which saw the winners of the CAF Confederation Cup face off against the victors of the CAF Champions League, the continent’s two premier club competitions.
