    The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations draw was held in Gabon’s capital city Libreville on Wednesday evening, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) determined the four groups of 16 teams that will be aiming for glory come the AFCON in January 2017. The four host cities that will stage matches include Libreville, Franceville, Oyem and Port Gentil, as Gabon hosts the continental showpiece on their own, six years after co-hosting the competition alongside Equatorial Guinea.

    The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have decided to allow a total of 50,000 fans to attend the 2018 World Cup qualifier between the Pharaohs of Egypt and the Black Stars of Ghana at the Borg El Arab Stadium on Sunday November 13. There have been strict restrictions on fans at soccer matches in Egypt since 2012, when 72 Al Ahly fans were killed in violence that broke out at a match in Port Said.

    The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed two shortlists for major awards over the weekend, including a shortlist of 25 players who are nominated for the 2016 African Player of the Year – Based in Africa award. A total of five players have been selected from South African club side Mamelodi Sundowns, meaning that a fifth of the nominees represent the Pretoria-based team.
