Asamoah Gyan About To Sign For Shanghai SIPG

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan seems to be set for a move to Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG from current side Al Ain.

The player is expected in China on Wednesday to finalise the deal which will see him raise his weekly pay to around $250,000, according to some reports.

The Ghanaian striker with a goal scoring touch and the ability to adapt to various international leagues will now make it his goal to succeed in yet another international top flight league, with former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson set to be his new club coach if the deal is concluded.

Shanghai SIPG mentioned their interest in the 29-year-old striker in an official statement on their site, going on to reveal that reported fees were inflated.

“If all goes on well, he [Gyan] will fly to Shanghai on Wednesday. However, it is not true we have paid £20 million to Al Ain. It’s absolutely high,” said the statement on the club’s official website.

Since joining Al Ain from Sunderland in 2011, the Ghana all-time top scorer has won three Arabian Gulf League titles and one President’s Cup.

The latest move for an African player from a Chinese club comes hot on the heels of Demba Ba’s completed transfer from Turkish club Besiktas to Shanghai Shenhua, rivals of Gyan’s potential new employers.

The Chinese transfers mirror that of Ivorian Didier Drogba in 2012, when he joined the Shanghai Shenhua and played for them during a short period before returning to Europe with Turkish giants Galatasaray.
