Ivorian international Gervinho’s proposed move from Italian Serie A side Roma to Al Jazira of the Arabian Gulf League has stalled and is unlikely to be completed any longer.

The move is now dead in the water due to the fact that the player’s wage and financial demands were above what the Gulf side were willing to accommodate.

The 28-year-old seemed destined for a move to the United Arab Emirates with a $14.4 million offer on the table, along with a four-year contract, but in the last few weeks the player’s personal demands became an insurmountable obstacle.

The club known as the Pride of Abu Dhabi have now slammed on the brakes, and the deal is no longer on the cards.

“The deal hit a stumbling block because of the excessive demands on his four-year deal,” a senior Jazira source told Sport360.

“He started making obscene demands, so the transfer is off. It is better for us to call this transfer off now, rather than live with a player for a few months who is likely to cause problems because of his wage demands,” the source added.

The Ivorian has been an important player for the Romans since joining from Arsenal in 2013, with current coach Rudi Garcia adding to his comfort at the club. Scoring goals and contributing assists in attack have endeared Gervinho to the fans in Rome.

Roma ended the 2014-15 Serie A season in second place after an impressive campaign, meaning that they have guaranteed UEFA Champions League football for the next campaign.
