Europe Not Worth The Risk: One Kenyan Entrepreneur’s Experience

Thousands of Africans risk their lives every  year trying to cross the Mediterranean sea into Europe, lured by a better life there.

According to Associated Press, more than 10,000 migrants have been picked up alive from Mediterranean waters in recent weeks as they attempted to enter Europe from Libya. Nearly 1,830 migrants have died on the sea route this year compared to 207 in the same period last year, The International Organization for Migration estimates.

One Kenyan entrepreneur however says that life in Europe is not what many Africans believe it is. According to Claris Ndolo, 36, after spending six years working and studying in London, she says life in the UK was not what she would die for crossing a sea in a boat.

“I didn’t feel like my heart belonged there,” Ndolo told CCTV Africa. “The money that you get is considerable more than what you can get here, but the problem is the living expenses there is quite high. There you will constantly be working, and constantly be paying bills.”
