Aubameyang On Target As Dortmund Reach DFB Pokal Final

Gabon star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was once again on hand to assist his side in reaching the DFB Pokal Final in Germany with a semi-final victory over giants Bayern Munich.

It seemed that Bayern were on track to continue their quest for the treble when Robert Lewandowski put them in front, but Aubameyang levelled in the 75th minute by pouncing on a Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s assist to send matters to extra time and eventually penalties.

Dortmund went down to 10 men in extra time when Kevin Kampl received a red card, but the visitors were able to keep the hosts out of goal at the Allianz Arena, forcing penalties, which went the way of Dortmund.

Incredibly all of Bayern’s penalty takers failed to score, as Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso both slipped, Mario Gotze’s penalty was saved and keeper Manuel Neuer hit his kick against the crossbar. That allowed Dortmund to claim victory and progress by scoring two of their three penalties.

This victory puts an end to Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich’s aim of winning the treble through triumph in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and UEFA Champions League.

Aubameyang’s side move on to the final, where they will face the winner of Wednesday night’s semi-final between Arminia Bielefeld and Wolfsburg.

The 25-year-old has scored 22 goals for Dortmund this season in 38 games across all competitions, proving his worth as a top striker, and he will be looking to add his influence in the final on May 30.
