Despite drops in the FIFA ranking for all of the top four African sides, Algeria remains Africa’s best placed national team on the April edition of the list.

The Fennec Foxes find themselves in 21st place overall, two spots ahead of 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners Cote D’Ivoire in 23rd. The Black Stars of Ghana fell two placed to 26, remaining Africa’s third best side according to the ranking.

Tunisia follow behind the AFCON runners up, set in 30th position, ahead of the fifth highest African team, Senegal in 36th. Cape Verde follow up their incredible 2-0 victory over Portugal by placing in 37th.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria received some bad news, as they have dropped four spots to 45th and are now considered the eighth highest African side.

Egypt was amongst Africa’s biggest movers this month, with new coach Hector Cuper witnessing a jump of seven places to 51 overall, making them Africa’s 11th best national team according to FIFA.

The Pharaohs have not performed well on the rankings in recent times, and Egyptian fans will be hoping that their new Argentine coach will reverse the trend.

South Africa’s Bafana have dropped five places to 60th position in the April list, making them Africa’s 16th best squad.

Germany and Argentina are the top two sides in the ranking, while Belgium has now recorded their best ever position by moving into third spot. Colombia is in fourth, while Brazil is the fifth best nation on the planet according to the world football governing body.
