Marseille’s Andre Ayew Named Best African In Ligue 1

Marseille’s Ghanaian midfielder Andre Ayew has been named the best African player in France’s Ligue 1, according to France Football.

The Ghana international has been a major player for Marseille, with speculation around his future in recent months following reported interest from numerous clubs in England, Italy and Spain.

The midfielder’s positive effect on the team has seen them place in third spot on the French top flight table at the moment, five points away from Paris Saint-Germain in first place.

“In the game, his influence is undeniable: Andre Ayew is the one who directs the operation, impulse, command, voice and gesture,” according to the respected magazine.

Ayew, the son of Ghanaian legend Abedi Pele, was part of the strong Black Stars squad which reached the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier in the year, before losing to Cote D’Ivoire in a tense penalty shootout which went the distance, ending 9-8 in favour of the Elephants.

The older brother of Jordan Ayew returned to club action following the AFCON, continuing his great form at Marseille to see him top the France Football list.

The list also suggests that Wahbi Khazri of Tunisia and Ivorian Max Gradel are amongst the best that Africa has to offer to the French league, in which the African contingent is prominent.
