Danny Jordaan Says That South Africa Vs Nigeria Is A Grudge Match

South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan has been talking up the March 29 friendly international between South Africa and Nigeria, calling it a grudge match that both sets of fans are excited to experience.

The game between Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles is set to reignite a rivalry that has been an important narrative during the last few years.

Although the Nigerians have traditionally maintained the upper hand in this encounter, the South Africans have had the last say in recent matches.

The qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) saw home and away games which both ended in draws, leading to the Super Eagles losing their chance to defend their Nations Cup title in Equatorial Guinea at the expense of Bafana and Congo, who went on to take part in the competition in January.

Addressing the media at a press conference, SAFA head Jordaan put his thoughts on the eagerly awaited match into words.

“The upcoming game will definitely be another grudge encounter and both countries’ coaches would like to put the record straight. Whenever the two nations clash, the entire country comes to a standstill, more so with a huge Nigerian community in South Africa, this will be another explosive clash,” he said.

“This is a match soccer fans must not miss,” Jordaan concluded.

Nigeria and South Africa have played each other on 11 occasions. The Super Eagles have won seven times, while Bafana have only one victory on record. Three draws complete the statistic.

Nigeria play Bolivia in Uyo on March 26 before travelling to the rainbow nations to take on South Africa in Mbombela three days later.
