Al Ahly Name Squad For African Super Cup Encounter With ES Setif

Al Ahly coach Juan Garrido has named his squad for Saturday’s African Super Cup match against CAF Champions League winners ES Setif.

The Egyptian club have qualified to take on the Algerians following their CAF Confederation Cup victory, though they are more used to being involved in the top tier African club competition.

The final will take place in Algeria, as the Champions League winners earn the right to host their opponents.

The Spanish coach selected a squad of 20 players, but did not find space in the side for Ethiopian striker Salahdin Said from a tactical point of view, while injury and military service issues kept midfielders Mohamed Rizk and Islam Roshdy out respectively.

Goalkeeper Ahmed Adel and winger Hussein El-Sayed will be present at the Moustapha Chatker Stadium, however, as they have both recovered from injury to be ready in time for selection.

Ahly are aiming to extend their record with a seventh African Super Cup title, but should they be victorious reports in Egypt suggest that they may not celebrate out of respect and solidarity with their Cairo derby rivals Zamalek, whose fans were involved in the Air Defense Stadium tragedy on February 8 in which dozens were killed.
