SAFA Promise Global Giant For Bafana Friendly In March

The South African Football Association (SAFA) have revealed that they are working on lining up a ‘global soccer giant’ for national team Bafana Bafana to face at the end of March in an international friendly match.

The South Africans are looking to make use of the official FIFA international match day on March 28, with a game that will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Last year local reports suggested that a deal to play against heavyweights Argentina was on the cards, but Lionel Messi’s team will no longer be travelling to the continent, as they prefer to play against fellow South American opposition to prepare for the Copa America later in the year.

Now SAFA is looking to organise an opponent that will enthral Bafana fans and get them supporting the national team following their first round exit at the recently concluded 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea.

It is rumoured that a well known international team will be gracing South African shores for the encounter, but it is not yet known whether the side will come from the African continent or elsewhere.

According to SoccerLaduma, SAFA’s Communications Head, Dominic Chimhavi said, “I cannot comment on that rumour but one thing for sure is that we are about to tie down one of the global soccer giants which will excite local soccer fans.”
