Goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey Keen On Ghana National Team Return

Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has revealed that he would like to put the situation between himself and the Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) behind him so that he can return to the Ghana national team and represent his country.

The keeper did not join the Black Stars for their campaign at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea, where the Ghanaians ended the tournament as runners up following a penalty shootout loss to Cote D’Ivoire.

Instead, he wanted to remain with his MLS side, which he recently signed for, in order to get comfortable with his new team, and to avoid the issues that developed regarding a spat between him and a member of the Ghana national team coaching staff during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Explaining his decision, the shot-stopper told OregonLive, “I decided to stay here because I’ve just signed with the Timbers and it would be good to get to know the guys as early as possible.”

Kwarasey has not played for the Black Stars since his World Cup appearance against the USA, after which he refused to represent his country, but it seems that now, with time, he is rethinking that decision.

“I’m not sure what I want to do right now in terms of the national team,” Kwarasey said, according to OregonLive. “Hopefully, we can solve our little situation there and I can continue to play international games again because it’s my country and I want to represent my country.”

It seems that the ball is now in the GFA’s court, if they are still looking to have Kwarasey return to the national team.
