Best Golf Courses In Egypt That You Didn’t Know About

1 of 12

Egypt isn’t just pyramids and marketplaces. If you’re longing to hit that golf ball straight down a fairway, you can do so at about 20 golf courses in Egypt — some, within sight of pyramids. Leading designers such as Greg Norman, Gary Player and John Sanford created several golf courses on this list. Golf opened up in Egypt when the British left after World War I. Almost 100 years later, the 2011 Arab Spring and changes in government slowed down the development of master planned golf communities somewhat. Here are some of the best golf courses in Egypt that you didn’t know about.

Taba Heights

When they tee off at Taba Heights golf course, golfers can see three countries — Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel. Views of desert mountains and blue water are added bonuses on this course on the east coast of the Sinai Peninsula.

The course was designed by John Sanford, a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, and it meets American and European architectural standards for golf courses. It was ranked No. 1 golf course in Egypt for two consecutive years according to U.K. rankings. The gentle slopes of the fairways take advantage of sea and mountain views and the course offers an impressive 7,100 yards between the first and 18th holes. The total course area spans the central section of the resort’s overall properties, linking different hotels and future developments.

Nestled between the Red Sea and a mountain range, the course provides an exciting game with rolling elevations ranging from four to 70 meters above sea level. Due to this terrain, the management is making the use of golf carts mandatory for all players. Golf carts are complimentary. There’s a golf academy and lessons available from PGA golfers.
