Ugandans Hit With 2.1 Percent Power Tariff Increase

For the third time within 12 months, Uganda’s power regulatory authority will increase energy tariffs, CCTV Africa reported. The 2.1 percent hike, which will fall on customers, sprung up after the shilling fell against the dollar. Inflation and global energy price points are also factors which contributed to the tariff increase.

“Majorly, the exchange rate is the biggest driver of this tariff. If we would have had an affordable exchange rate in the quarter that closed — or probably in the last two quarters of 2014 — the tariff would have been different from what it has been,” electricity regulator Julius Wandera told CCTV Africa.
