Mozambique Considers Free Internet Areas In Tech Push

There will be more people going online in Mozambican as the government plans to implement free access on Saturdays. It’s all part of a drive to promote technology usage through Digital Resource Centres (CPRDs). According to Ministry of Science and Technology spokesperson Amancio Ubisse, the CPRDs would be established in all provinces except Manica and Maputo.

“The initiative aimed to stimulate and spread the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) within Mozambican communities,” reports Star Africa.

Ubisse said the government was in the process of creating of an ICT Universal Access Fund as well as setting up  a project aimed at sharing infrastructure towers by the mobile operators operating in the country.

The initiative is under the auspices of the government’s ICT Policy and Implementation Strategy. And through this objective, the government is also working on a study for the introduction of open systems for the use of “software” that does not present major financial burden in 2015.

“These measures, according to the source, will foster the development of intra- and inter-networks that support public, private, civil and community in the development of its activities through the provision of sectoral applications for the implementation of local development objectives,” reports Star Africa.
