Cameroon Expects Severe Food Shortage Due To Boko Haram

Cameroonian Far North region is facing a food shortage due to the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram. There is a deficit of 132,000 tons of grains, according to the Ministry of agriculture.

“In Logone and Chari, Mayo-Sava and Tsanaga departments which are the most affected by this scourge and which also welcome thousands of Nigerian refugees fleeing abuses of the jihadist movement, this deficit is estimated at around 122,000 tons of grain, a shortfall estimated at 30 billion FCFA,” reports Star Africa.

The villagers’ livelihood depends on subsistence farming, has been threatened by Boko Haram’s activities in that region.

Authorities still to announce any steps to deal with this mounting insecurity problem.
