Madagascar Press Face New Government Restrictions

According to a CCTV Africa, journalists are trying to understand and move around sanctions that have been placed on them for critical reports. Members of the media say they have have experienced or witnessed unfair detainment and harassment by security groups.

“We have improved the media industry so journalists can grow and we also plan to introduce new laws that are already in practice in the rest of the world on the decriminalization of the press,” Cyril Reboza, Minister of Communication and Information Relations told CCTV Africa. “So we think that proves our goodwill toward improving the industry.”

He said that there are two sides to media complaints and that the government is not implementing harsh laws or harm.
