US-based fast food giant, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) returned to Zimbabwe last month and says it is amazed at the overwhelming response it received from the local market within the few weeks of operation.

KFC returned to Zimbabwe in July, seven years after folding operations in the Southern African country due too economic meltdown.

“This has been a phenomenal market and it has exceeded our expectations,” said KFC General Manager New Africa Markets Bruce Layzell in Harare on Monday.

KFC is a global fast food restaurant chain that specializes in fried chicken and is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky in the United States.

It opened its first Zimbabwean restaurant in the capital Harare just six weeks ago. It is also planning to open 25 other outlets across the country in the coming months.

Businessman Kevin James — owner of Consolidated Farming Investments Limited, a leading investor in the fast food sector in Zimbabwe — is fronting KFC’s re-entry into Zimbabwe.
