Capacity of Tanzania and other African countries to negotiate better in the international trade deals was enhanced through a week-long training as facilitated by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The training on Advanced Trade Negotiation Simulation Skill that concluded at the weekend was participated by more than 20 countries from all over the African continent.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr Uledi Mussa, said it was an important course for the Tanzania and other African countries given the fact that the developing nations still face challenges when negotiating trade deals. “Negotiation skills our officials have gained will enable to prepare plan and participate in actual trade negotiations in order to protect and defend the interest of their countries,” said Mr Mussa.

He said international trade negotiations are very important in this period of globalization where countries need to integrate into the global economy.

“Through trade negotiations at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels, countries have managed to gain market access for their products due to elimination of tariffs and non-tariff measures. International trade negotiations facilitate economic growth of countries as they promote trade,” he said.
