Second American Aid Worker Infected With Ebola In West Africa

NBC NEWS reports that a second American aid worker in Liberia has tested positive for Ebola, according to the Christian humanitarian group she works for. The aid workers, a Serving in Mission (SIM) employee in Liberia, was helping to treat Ebola patients in Monrovia. On Saturday, Samaritan’s Purse announced that a male 33-year old American doctor had also been infected with Ebola while treating patients in Monrovia.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is struggling to contain one of the world’s worst outbreak of Ebola. WHO  said that that there have been over 670 deaths since the epidemic began in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, in February and spread to Neighboring countries of Liberia and Sierra Leone. There was also a confirmed death in Lagos, Nigeria.

A Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) doctor who has played a key role in fighting the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone was also infected with the disease, according to the country’s Ministry of Health. More than three doctors and several health workers fighting the plague have died.
