Entrepreneur Fills Void In Agricultural Services

Entrepreneurs like Bernard Ondung are providing agricultural extension services to fill the  void left when extension officers stopped visiting farmers in Kenya to train them on right practices.

The absence of these services, coupled with negative attitudes and changed mindset, have pushed many people out of agriculture as crops failed year after year, according to a report in Business Daily.

Ondung’s Green Zone Agencies Company provides extension services with a focus on horticulture. He sells greenhouses, shade nets and open drip irrigation systems to farmers at subsidized rates with follow-up services until they learn how to use the new agricultural technology for maximum productivity.

Ondung said the attitude among his customers had been that agriculture was for the uneducated. He wanted his company to reverse that mindset.
