Some 80 American companies in the pharmaceutical, transport, technology and agricultural sectors participated in the trade fair.

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal invited US businesspeople to invest in the country and set up partnerships with Algerian companies and to help transfer technology.

Algeria needs a strong partnership between its national companies and their American counterparts, given that the US is the world’s largest economy, he said during a visit to the US pavilion.

Sellal stressed the need to support the foundations of US-Algerian partnership, especially in the energy, agriculture and tourism sectors.

He noted that Algeria was interested in building and supporting “strong” co-operation and partnership ties with the US in priority sectors. American partnerships could also contribute to training Algerian workers and provide experience to small and medium-sized enterprises, especially in the use of modern technologies.

US Ambassador to Algeria Henry Ensher voiced similar goals. “US participation reflects my country’s desire to develop its economic ties with Algeria,” Ensher said.
