South African Entrepreneur, 21, Makes Forbes ‘Under 30’ List

South African resident Sizewe Nzima, 21, has been named to the Forbes Magazine’s list, 30 Under 30: Africa’s Best Young Entrepreneurs.

Nzima runs Iyeza Express, a business that reduces overcrowding at hospitals and clinics in the Western Cape by using bicycles to deliver medicine to chronically ill patients in their homes.

Operating his business in the Cape Town township of Khayelitsha, the entrepreneur says he hopes to expand to other areas.

“In the next five years I would like to see the business operating in the whole of Khayelitsha and maybe one or two outside areas such as Gugulethu or Nyanga,” he says.

Nzima, who co-founded the business, graduated from the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development in 2012. The academy, with campuses in Cape Town and Soweto, offers a six-month program with the goal of helping young people rise above social, financial and academic constraints.

Raised by a grandmother in a family of six, Sizwe encourages his peers to resist gangs and drugs and work towards their goals.

“We are the future of this world and all we need to do is to understand how to use this power in a good way, not by going into crime and drugs,” he said.

Nzima is studying for an undergraduate degree in commerce through the University of South Africa while building the business.
