On the first day back in court after South Africans went to the polls for the 2014 elections, Oscar Pistorius’ defense called an anesthetist to testify at the double-amputee runner’s murder trial, according to Newsloop.

Prof. Aina Christina Lundgren was questioned on how long it takes to digest food after eating. It was an attempt to counter prosecution claims that Pistorius is lying about the timeline the night he killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, according to the report.

An autopsy report showed Steenkamp had food in her stomach after she was shot by Pistorius. An expert for the prosecution said a person’s stomach is normally empty six hours after eating, and that Steenkamp ate much later than Pistorius claims.
