U.S. Talent Summit Seeks to Bring African Diaspora Professionals Home

From Madame Noire

Ever think of working in Africa? Here’s your chance. The Africa-America Institute will host its Second Annual Talent Summit, targeting mid-career professionals looking to work in Africa, on May 3rd at New York City’s Baruch College.

Having relocated to Cabo Verde in West Africa four years ago, I have seen firsthand the expanding opportunities. The capital city, Praia, grows each year with more and more businesses–some homegrown, others from overseas including America. The Summit could give you an opportunity to be on the ground floor of an emerging Africa.

“Currently home to five of the world’s dozen fastest-growing economies, Africa’s comparably strong performance over the past five years is about more than commodity supercycle and the boon of debt relief,” reports Forbes. While there are still major challenges for many countries in Africa to overcome–from deteriorating infrastructure to unstable governments–there are hot spots for new business opportunities.

The Summit will include panel discussions on the hottest career sectors in Africa, from health care and pharmaceuticals to information technology and energy and power. In fact, the World Bank estimates that 2.5 million new engineers and technicians are needed in sub-Saharan Africa.
