World Bank Give Kenya Millions To Combat Drought

The World Bank has approved a grant of Sh6.6 billion to assist more than 93,000 Kenyan pastoralist cope with the negative impact of climate change. The fund seeks to improve the livelihoods of the communities and address challenges brought about by climate change, animal disease and inadequate access to water resources. Other challenges to be addressed by the fund include the shrinking grazing lands, poor market infrastructure and lack of early warning systems for drought. The Sh6.6 billion fund is part of a Sh10.5 billion ($122 million) approved by the institution to improve the livelihoods of the communities along the Horn of Africa, besides strengthening the capacity of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (Igad).
