American Tourists Looking To Africa For Business Opportunities

American tourists are looking for adventure travel and vacations in Africa as well as more business opportunities on the continent. At an annual tourism seminar in Washington last week African tourism government agencies sought to encourage more Americans to visit the continent.

“Our economic initiative towards Africa are compliments to the tourism industry. What we are doing in the ‘Power Africa’ initiative is really to expand the access to electricity, increase it by 10,000 megawatts and perhaps 20 million homes and businesses. (This) really will give confidence to American tourist who will feel there is enough lighting and security and also provide the energy for hotels and businesses,” Basi Williams, deputy assistant secretary of state for Africa at the U.S. State Department told VOA on the sidelines of the seminar.
