From Mango Seeds To Livestock Feed: Nigerian Teams Wins Business Venture Contest

From NYDailyNews.

A Nigerian team of entrepreneurs who came up with an inexpensive alternative for livestock feed using mango seeds was one of two winners in an India-Africa business competition held in Johannesburg.

Four teams from India, two from Nigeria and one each from South Africa and Kenya were finalists.

Nigeria’s Jorsey Ashbel Farm and India’s Life Catalyst Technologies won the Second Indiafrica Business Venture Competition comprising professionals from Africa and India.

The Nigerian team developed a unique alternative source of feeds using mango seeds, producing livestock products at a cost of 40 percent to 60 percent less than regular farms, according to a report in NYDailyNews.

They presented a plan of selling “affordable, culturally suitable and healthy livestock products that can potentially improve the health conditions of underprivileged sections of the Nigerian population,” the report said.

Blessing Oritseweyinmi of Jorsey Ashbel Farms will travel to Davos during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in January, 2014 to share the plan with CEOs and investors from all over the world, according to the report.

Niyi Yusuf, chief executive of Accenture, Nigeria, mentored the winning Nigerian team.
