Egypt Economy Declines, Young Professionals Seek Jobs Abroad

According to a Russia Today (RT) report, eight million Egyptians have moved abroad in the face of political instability. While the youth unemployment rate stands at 77 percent, the country cannot provide jobs for the growing pool of job seekers — even with substantial economic growth. A new constitution is connected to hopes that an exercise of political freedom and more employment opportunities will become available to retain Egypt’s youth.

“Here you study for four years and you don’t find a job at the end of it. There are better chances outside Egypt, Omar Hamid, a design student told RT Live. “There I can find the freedom to work with the skills that I have. That is one of the important reasons forcing people to leave.”

Activists who’ve received jail time for protesting are also leaving the country in droves.
