Mine workers at Lonmin Platinum Mine in South Africa have been told by their union to return to work, ending a two-day strike over looming job cuts.

Wage talks complicated by a turf war between rival unions, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union and the National Union of Mineworkers, contributed to deadly strikes at Lonmin and other platinum producers last year, according to a Fox Business report.

“(It) seems positive so far,” Lonmin spokeswoman Sue Vey told Reuters, saying that workers reported for overnight shifts Wednesday.

More than 50 people have died since platinum mining strikes began last year, including 34 strikers shot on one day in August by police.

International ratings agency Moody’s said Wednesday more violence could hurt South Africa’s competitiveness in the mining industry, according to the report.
