Cape Verde Named One Of 2014’s Best Travel Destinations By National Geographic

National Geographic magazine has named Cape Verde as one of its “Best Trips” for 2014. According to the publication’s editors, the end-of-the-year guide showcases that which is most “authentic, culturally rich, sustainable and, of course, superlative in the current world of travel.”

The magazine refers to Cape Verde as a relatively little-known refuge where tourism is still emerging. It calls the country an archipelago of “strong winds” and songs “filled with bittersweet longing.” “So with the songs of the barefoot diva, Cape Verde came into the spotlight,” writes the magazine.

“From tiny Brava to the valleys of Santo Antão, the dunes of Boa Vista to the volcano on Fogo, the archipelago’s various tourist attractions are described in the article,” reports Asemana.

The article also gives tips on drinks, dishes, music and even souvenirs to buy, such as Miss Perfumado, the album that catapulted famous Cape Verdean singer Cesária Évora into international stardom.
