To Further Develop, Cape Verde Requires International Partnerships, Prime Minister

Cape Verde needs the partnership of the international community to continue to develop with strategies, targets and performance indicators, and with a sense of commitment and responsibility, said Prime Minister José Maria Neves in his speech at the 8th European Development Days, currently taking place in Brussels. Speaking on a panel focused on the post-2015 agenda, Neves stressed, however, that the responsibility for projecting Cape Verde, which intends to be a developed country by 2030, is first and foremost that of Cape Verdeans.

In a speech that lasted just over 12 minutes and that focused on the reality of Cape Verde, Neves said that the country has already made important achievements, but needs to continue to carry out reforms, modernize infrastructures, qualify human resources, densify the private sector, innovate and add value in order to transform its comparative advantages into sources of competitiveness, because “this is the only way we can create our own wealth.”

“Cape Verde and Africa need partnerships from the international community, with reciprocal gains, based on a development agenda with a commitment and responsibility from both sides – an agenda geared toward creating opportunities for economic growth, job creation and the fight against poverty and inequality in an environment of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights,” stressed the head of the government, highlighting the fact that Africa is rising with its sights set on development.
